PRAYER

At the John Paul II Centre for Life we place a big emphasis on prayer, as we understand that it is the absolutely vital foundation upon which all our other work is built and carried out.

Mass
At the heart of our centre is the Chapel of the Holy Innocents where we are privileged to have the Blessed Sacrament reserved, and at 12 noon each Thursday Mass is celebrated for the cause of life and for all of our supporters and their families.
***Visitor are always welcome to join us for Mass on Thursdays at 12pm.

Weekly Holy Hour
We believe in the tremendous power that flows from adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and our hope is to one day have perpetual adoration taking place in our chapel, but in the meantime we gather as staff every Thursday at 11am for a weekly Holy Hour.

Are you interested in supporting the John Paul II Centre for Life by committing to a regular Holy Hour for Life in our chapel? If so then please click here to send us an email.

Candlelight Vigils
Twice a year we hold 12 hour vigils, which anybody is welcome to attend, for the intentions of life, marriage and family. These commence with Mass at 7pm, then another Mass is celebrated again at midnight, and the Vigil concludes with a final Mass at 7am the next morning. These bi-annual vigils provide an opportunity to ‘watch and pray’ for the cause of life, marriage and family.

Details about upcoming Candlelight Vigils are posted under the ‘News and Events’ section of our website (on our homepage), and if you would like more information about our Candlelight Vigils then please click here to send us an email.

Vigils for Life

The Vigil for Life is a coming together of people in unity, to lift a prayer to heaven for the most vulnerable – preborn children – and to witness to the dignity of their lives. Like Mary and John who stood faithfully at the foot of the cross at Calvary, with their dying Lord, we  stand in solidarity and love with the babies who are listed for destruction through abortion  and we pray with loving compassion  for their families. We pray also for a greater reverence for Life in our culture. There is no condemnation in this but it is truly a powerful witness to Truth and an act of faith. We must be convinced that God uses this type of Prayerful Presence to change hearts.

You are invited to join us on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

We begin with midday Mass at St Teresa’s Riccarton, then meet again directly after this outside Christchurch Hospital (which is the base for terminations) to resume our prayer vigil and witness.

“So if in Christ there is anything that will move you, any incentive in love,

any fellowship in the Spirit, any warmth or sympathy — I appeal to you,

make my joy complete by being of a single mind, one in love,

one in heart and one in mind.” Phil 2:1-2
